1929 - 2002
F.N. Souza was born to Goan Catholic parents in the year 1929. Interestingly, he was expelled from collage due to drawing graffiti in the restrooms. Francis was politically motivated and often got into trouble for it. At the age of 18 he joined the Communist Party Of India.
The same year he helped establishing the Bombay Progressive Artists' Group. The group was initiated to encourage and promote Indian artists. He travelled to London to pursue his career in art since in India his art was often ridiculed.
He used to draw and paint Indian landscapes and depict the poverty in a creative way. His art was known for showing the poor side of Goan culture.

He was said to define Indian modern art. He would create abstracts of anything that inspired him. His artwork was displayed in London and he was a well known artist there due to his presence in few on the most prestigious galleries in London.
